Abstract

Model for the Acoustic Optimization of Living Spaces

Dirk Thorleuchter

Nowadays, acoustic aspects tend to be neglected in domestic construction. This is partially due to the abstract nature of the topic and the difficulty of linking qualitative statements about good acoustics to quantitative aspects of creation and propagation of sounds. My project tries to make this topic more specific. Even though the presence of furniture tends to substantially improve the acoustic properties of living spaces, bad acoustics is a problem in many houses and not just in cellars. My project aims to clarify what should be considered good acoustics, how it can be calculated and how it can be realized in your own home.
