Abstract

Wave Physics Lab in a Box

project report

Our wave physics lab in a box allows the realization of experiments relating to wave optics and other waves. Every experiment is conducted in a little box and can be observed with the naked eye and recorded with a digital camera. Digitally recorded interference and diffraction images can be processed using a computer. In order to facilitate this, we wrote a program that can extract the intensity distribution of light waves and water waves from digital images. The extracted values are automatically transferred to Excel, where they are visualized graphically and processed mathematically using our Excel macros. Our software in combination with our wave physics lab in a box forms a powerful tool for teaching physics.
