Abstract

Organic Electronics

project report

Polymer electronics refers to the fabrication and use of electronic components consisting of plastics. Polymers are expected to replace conventional materials such as silicon in the low budget market. This will make the fabrication of items such as intelligent labels for products in supermarkets very cheap.

I decided to focus on the fabrication and characterization of conductive polymers and organic field effect transistors (OFETs), which can be used to build simple organic integrated circuits for the above-mentioned application. My experiments show why PEDOT - in contrast to P3HT - is not suitable as semiconductor in OFETs. The properties of my OFETs are not yet ideal, but I expect that I will be able to improve them considerably by the contest.

Byproducts of my project are a spin coater and a simple clean room. I built the spin coater based on a hard drive and it works well for fabricating organic transistors. The clean room consists of a plastic box and a vacuum cleaner.
