We are looking into ways of saving coral reefs as these fantastic ecosystems are threatened by tsunamis and the carelessness of humans. Our contribution consists of studying how coral growth can be increased and thus how the renaturation of reefs can be sped up. We want to accelerate coral growth by sending a small direct current through the water. We had this idea based on a project in Bali, where a direct current is conducted through steel frames that are placed in the water so that corals would grow on them. We want to test whether this can be a solution for saving coral reefs.
