Abstract

Under Water Sensor

Mattis Deisen

project report

There are fish that can navigate and detect prey at night and in cloudy water using a self-generated electric field. Thus, they can distinguish living and dead matter using their electric signals. This made me wonder how the brain of these fish can distinguish these signals.

Therefore I attempted to construct a sensor that imitates and automates the navigation system of these fish. In order to recognize which object was placed inside the water tank, I applied a known electrical signal to the water and attempted to identify the object based on the signal change using language recognition software. Eventually, I succeeded to do this for a several objects, which I identify correctly about 90% of the time using this method.
