Serious accidents involving metallic robots and humans happen too frequently in industry. Therefore, we set ourselves the goal of designing and constructing soft components for robots. We manufactured a sort of "elephant's trunk" from special silicon, which contains a special arrangement of air chambers that can expand to actuate the trunk. This way, even sensitive objects can be held securely. Furthermore, we built a hand consisting of several fingers (trunks), which can pick up and hold very fragile objects carefully and securely.
