We developed a laser biathlon facility for use in PE lessons. Endurance training is an important part of the PE curriculum, but it is not very popular amongst pupils. With our laser biathlon facility we aim to introduce an established and motivating endurance sport to PE lessons. To achieve this, we developed a portable, rechargeable-battery-powered biathlon facility consisting of a laser module and a target module. They are controlled by an ESP32 microcontroller and communicate via a direct peer-to-peer network, such that they can exchange data wirelessly with each other without relying on any external network infrastructure to enable hits to be shown directly. We designed the modules ourselves and manufactured them by 3d-printing.
