The goal of our "Jugend forscht"-project is the development of novel physics experiments for school lessons. We reached this goal by developing a cheap fabrication method for photonic crystals. This method yields decent photonic crystals within 30 minutes. This allows the fabrication and characterization of photonic crystals in a block period (e.g. Bragg reflection of visible light). We were also able to resolve the safety issues. Thus, we have opened the door to the exciting and motivating world of nanotechnology for physics lessons at school.
