Our goal is to develop a device that can be used to perform an ophthalmoscopy / fundoscopy at home. We use a webcam and several light sources. The camera detects the light that is reflected by the retina and the image is displayed on the monitor of our computer. We try to expose as much of the retina as possible without using pupillodilating eye drops. Our final device should be small, flexible, easy to use and cheap enough for use in the Third World. Overall, we hope that this innovation will help with the early diagnosis of eye diseases and eliminate unnecessary visits to the doctor.
