We have seen videos of exciting physics experiments online and often we wondered whether they are real or fake. We demonstrated experimentally that a video where popcorn was popped using cell phones was fake. Elsewhere, a hand was X-rayed using a cell phone and also here we were able to demonstrate that this is impossible. Another video claimed that X-rays could be generated by unrolling sticky tape in vacuum. We found this fascinating and decided to repeat and check this experiment. By now we have been able to create, detect and study X-ray emission from sticky tape.
