Abstract

Polyculture

Rufus Wegner

project report

Climate change is causing increasingly serious challenges. Droughts will influence agriculture and thus the basis of our life. Polyculture is a farming method that should combine ecological and economical advantages by influencing the water content in the ground in a way that increases drought resistance and yields. This 2.5-year project focuses on soil, ecological and practical aspects, the development of the polyculture concept, its testing in a 1-year experiment, as well as the development/modification of soil analysis methods and methods of documentation. Unfortunately, our experiment was affected by torrential rain during the summer 2021. Nevertheless, our experiment allows the evaluation of our hypothesis and provides a basis for further polyculture research.
