Abstract

Electromagnetic Pulse Generator

Jan Roitzheim, Max Bieger

project report

We develop a home-made low-cost electromagnetic pulse generator (EMP). We use simple components that are familiar from school physics lessons and household articles. Our first practical realization is based on a conventional electronic fly swatter. While our first design works well, we have improvements in mind and we are working on their implementation.

Our goal is active protection for electronic equipment, e.g. the automatic emergency shutdown of servers or other electronic devices. The EMP is versatile and it may be expected to continue to play a role in future technological developments.
